Admissions Process
Thank you for your interest in applying for admission to Won's Academy. We hope to work with you and help you achieve your goals.
The admissions process has several parts:
- The submission of an application form.
- The student and parent or guardian interview.
- The submission of school grades from current or previous years.
- Placement or diagnostic tests, if needed.
Please read through the following terms and conditions before proceeding with the application process:
Terms and Conditions
- Every student and every parent or guardian have read and agree to abide by the rules, regulations, and code of ethics set forth in the Won's Academy Handbook (available online).
- Applying is not a guarantee of admission to Won's Academy. The submission of the application form constitutes an invitation to Won's Academy to offer admission to students.
- Each student must complete an email, phone, or in-person interview Won's Academy prior to matriculation.
- If the course, subject, or topic requires, each student will complete a diagnostic assessment for the purpose of course placement or course qualification, unless the student can furnish alternative proof of qualification. For instance, if a student is seeking to enroll in a secondary school math course at Won's Academy, the student can either take a diagnostic assessment or bring a transcript from the student's school indicating a passing grade in the prerequisite course. No exceptions to this rule will be made.
- There is a $50 application processing fee per student.
Interview Process
Won’s Academy requires all new students and their parents or guardians to be interviewed by the Head of School or another member of the Governing Board. This is to ensure the maximum educational efficacy.
Students should be prepared to answer the following questions:
- What are your academic and career goals?
- What do you do for fun?
- How serious are you about your studies?
- Will you do all the homework we assign?
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
- What are your expectations of Won’s Academy?
Parents should be prepared to answer the following questions:
- Why did you choose Won’s Academy?
- What are your goals for your child?
- What are your child’s strengths and weaknesses?
- Will you cooperate with Won’s Academy in enforcing good study habits?
- What are your expectations of Won’s Academy?
Diagnostic Assessment
Some courses and services at Won’s Academy require diagnostic or placement assessments. This is to ensure success in the course and/or to help our teachers and staff best assist and guide each student.
The following courses and services require diagnostic assessments:
- Group classes, including courses for credit
- Standardized test preparation courses or tutoring
- Self-paced, guided mathematics
As a general rule, students are required to take diagnostic tests. At the discretion of Won’s Academy, however, the diagnostic assessment may be waived.
The following situations are examples of when Won’s Academy may waive the diagnostic assessment:
- The student requests tutoring for homework and schoolwork assistance only
- The course is designed for preschool or kindergarten students
- The course is designed for academic remediation
- Won’s Academy has previously determined the student’s competency
Won’s Academy Handbook Summary
To ensure the success of its students, Won’s Academy requires that its students abide by the rules and regulations found in the Won’s Academy Handbook.
Below is a summary of the key pieces of information for students:
Code of Conduct
Won’s Academy does not tolerate the following:
- Violence
- Bullying
- Inappropriate Behavior
- Inappropriate Attire
- Vandalism
- Cheating
- Stealing
- Discrimination
Each of the behaviors above violates the ethical code of Won’s Academy and is subject to discipline. For more information, refer to the full Handbook.
Academic Policies
Won’s Academy strives to provide a supportive learning environment for its students that emphasizes a holistic learning process. As such, Won’s Academy has adopted the following policies:
- Credit course lectures will be recorded and accessible to all students.
- Every student will be given one opportunity after each assessment, whether formative or summative, to remediate his or her score up to 93. This remediation policy will only come into effect if the student is not facing any disciplinary action, has missed fewer than 6 hours of class during the marking period, and has completed all required assignments.
- Students are encouraged to collaborate and assist one another in an academically honest manner. Teachers may restrict the extent of peer collaboration and assistance as they see fit.
Tuition and Refund Policy
Tuition
Won’s Academy offers several payment options:
Credit Courses
- Full payment upfront (10% tuition discount)
- Half payment upfront, half paid at the start of the second semester (5% tuition discount)
- 15% deposit, remainder paid monthly
Non-Credit, Ongoing Courses
- Full-year payment upfront (10% tuition discount)
- Half-year payment upfront, half paid monthly (5% tuition discount)
- Equal monthly payments
Tuition may be paid by cash, check, PayPal, or credit card.
All credit card payments will incur a 3% convenience charge, on top of any other charges or fees.
Refunds
Unless as otherwise arranged between the student’s parent(s) and Won’s Academy, the following is Won’s Academy’s refund policy:
Credit Courses
- Pro rata refunds or tuition credits for tuition paid, including the deposit, are available at any time within the first month of the start of the course.
- Pro rata refunds or tuition credits for tuition paid, including the deposit, are available at any time for medical emergencies that prohibit the student’s continued attendance of class.
- Refunds or tuition credits for tuition paid are not available after the first month, except for medical emergencies, as stated.
Non-Credit Courses
- Pro rata refunds or tuition credits for tuition paid are available at any time for medical conditions that prohibit the student’s continued attendance of class.
- Refunds are not available for students who are expelled from Won’s Academy.
AP Score Guarantee
For AP Credit Courses Only
Won’s Academy offers an AP score guarantee for the AP course in which the student is enrolled.
The Guarantee
Won’s Academy guarantees a score of 4 or 5 on the AP exam for the AP course in which the student is enrolled.
If the student satisfies all the terms and conditions below and fails to score 4 or 5 on the AP exam, Won’s Academy will provide a 25% tuition refund to the student.
In other words, if a student enrolls in AP Calculus BC, for example, at Won’s Academy and receives a score of 3 or below on the AP Calculus BC examination, after having satisfied the terms and conditions below, Won’s Academy will refund 25% of the paid tuition to the student.
Terms and Conditions
The following terms and conditions apply:
- The student is enrolled in the AP course for which he or she is taking the AP exam.
- The student completes every assignment adequately
- The student scores 93 or higher on every quiz and test, or the remediates tests and quizzes to 93 or higher.
- The student misses no more than 6 hours of instruction per marking period and makes up any missed class by watching the recorded lecture for that class and completing all corresponding assignments.
- The student is not suspended or expelled from Won’s Academy.
